About Us

Villa Basilicata is a labor of love born from Maria’s family inheritance. Five years ago, Maria and Michael embarked on an ambitious journey to restore and transform this special property with their own hands. Every stone, every detail, and every corner has been thoughtfully designed and crafted to create an authentic Italian home that reflects our deep passion for quality, comfort, and the true essence of la dolce vita.

Having traveled extensively across Italy, we often found ourselves disappointed by accommodations that promised an unforgettable sensory experience but fell short — especially when the price didn’t match the reality. This frustration sparked the idea for Villa Basilicata: a place where guests could enjoy a genuine, high-quality Italian stay without compromise.

At present, we are offering our beautifully finished private studio, giving you the entire villa to yourselves for a truly exclusive and peaceful retreat. Over the coming year, we will complete the remaining parts of the property, and the full villa will become available, comfortably accommodating up to 10 guests.

We can’t wait to welcome you and share this special corner of Italy with you.

Things to Do Near Villa Basilicata

Nestled in the heart of the Val d’Agri in Basilicata, Villa Basilicata offers the perfect base to discover one of Italy’s most authentic and unspoiled regions. Surrounded by the majestic Appennino Lucano Val d’Agri Lagonegrese National Park, you’ll find dramatic mountain landscapes, ancient history, charming villages, and unforgettable experiences.

Seasonal Highlights

  • Spring & Early Summer — Wildflowers carpet the meadows and fireflies light up the evenings (as you mentioned).
  • Autumn — Golden foliage, harvest season, and excellent wine-tasting opportunities.
  • Winter — Snow-capped mountains and a peaceful, magical atmosphere (nearby ski lifts at Sellata-Pierfaone if you enjoy winter sports).

Whether you crave active days in nature, cultural discoveries, or simply relaxing with great food and wine, the Val d’Agri and Basilicata offer a genuine Italian experience far from the crowds.

We’re happy to help you plan your days, suggest guided tours, or book experiences during your stay at Villa Basilicata.

Our Rooms

La Cantina

La Cantina – Our Private Studio

La Cantina was once the family’s traditional storage room – affectionately known as “la cantina”. We thought it only fitting to keep the name when we transformed this space into our beautiful studio apartment.

With its warm earthy tones, soft lighting, and sleek micro-cement finishes, La Cantina offers a cosy yet stylish retreat that feels authentically Italian. Every detail has been carefully chosen by Maria, whose thoughtful decoration means you’ll keep discovering little touches of beauty throughout your stay.

The studio features:

  • A comfortable queen-size bed
  • A relaxing sitting area
  • A well-equipped kitchenette with a Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, and fridge
  • A spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower and wall-hung toilet

Perfect for couples or solo travellers seeking privacy, comfort, and that genuine sense of home in the heart of Basilicata.
